For Dad's Only

The Importance of Your Presence
PDF Print E-mail

Regardless of whether your child entered kindergarten or college this year, they need you to show up. If you are the father of an adult child, they need you to be interested and understand what their lives are about. Age will never change the power of the message your interest sends and the value it adds to your child.

Many times dads have left the school arena up to mom. Open Houses and school conferences are typically attended by mothers.

Keep It Simple

Let’s keep this article simple and to the point. Dads often get brought into a decision late in the process and are asked to get caught up quickly. For weeks, issues may be brewing, but dads are informed on an “as needed” basis because moms are the primary “go to” person in the household.

What Kind of Man Are You?
PDF Print E-mail

Have you ever watched a little boy walk behind his dad, trying to march in his footprints on the beach or stay within the shadow of his outline? It is so fascinating to watch as the little guy works so hard to make sure he is keeping up in every way.

What if your children follow you? I’m not talking about in the sand or shadows, but in life. If they went everywhere you went, would you be proud or embarrassed? If they listened in on your conversations and repeated what you said, would that be okay? What if they made decisions the way you did; would they reflect character and integrity or would they be filled with suspicion and shortcuts?

Father’s Day – What Do You Want?
PDF Print E-mail

I know the title sounds as if I am asking dads to give me a list of items their family can purchase to give them for the annual dad’s day celebration. In fact, if you want to go ahead and make a list to help them out, I am sure they would be grateful once they pick themselves up off the floor from shock.

However, I am not speaking of tangible gifts. I am talking of the things of the heart and spirit that will last far longer and have a greater impact than any physical present could possibly represent.

What will you do for Mother's Day?
PDF Print E-mail

Okay dads, Mother’s Day is right around the corner. I thought I would help you out and tell you what your wife might like for Mother’s Day.

No, I am not going to tell you what gift to buy her (I know better than to step on that land mine). However, I will tell you what will make her day. You don’t have to do all of these, but if you take one or two of my suggestions, you just might surprise her and touch her deeply at the same time!

Who is the Real Player in the Game?
PDF Print E-mail

Many of you will be watching March Madness over the next few weeks. I am sure it will add a little excitement to your weekend because it can be a common denominator of discussion amongst friends and colleagues. In fact, it has been said that the real reason the President of the United States has changed his travel plans overseas is so that he and the travel correspondents can get in 40 or so basketball games. Whether that is true or not, I cannot confirm; I do however grasp the importance of sports in the lives of many dads.

I think it is great when fathers are involved with their children in any capacity. I find dads seem to enjoy watching their children participate in athletics especially. There are many reasons for this connection and it can be a wonderful bonding experience between a father and child.
